President Aquino is going on a one-day trip to China on Sept. 3 in what is seen as an effort to end strained relations with China triggered by the standoff in Bajo de Masinloc in April last year.
The President has accepted China’s invitation to attend the 10th ASEAN-China Expo (CAEXPO) to be held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from Sept. 3 to 6, MalacaƱang and Department of Foreign Affairs sources said.

Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - A German foreign minister yesterday expressed his country's support for the Philippine position to solve its sea disputes with China under international law, saying that peaceful resolution was best for the two countries.

No longer content with waiting for a negotiated solution with China, the government has elevated the West Philippine Sea dispute before a United Nations arbitrator.
"[T]he Philippines has taken the step of bringing China before an Arbitral Tribunal under Article 287 and Annex VII of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)," Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said Tuesday.This, as he noted that the Philippines "has exhausted almost all political and diplomatic avenues for a peaceful negotiated settlement" of the territorial spat.
