World boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao on Thursday voted to junk the reproductive health (RH) bill.

In a speech to explain his vote, Pacquiao said being knocked out by Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez during their fight in Las Vegas last Sunday strengthened his opposition to the measure.

“What happened in Vegas strengthened my already firm belief of the sanctity of life,” the Filipino boxer said.
Pacquiao, who lost his fourth match with Marquez, attended the House plenary session days just a few hours after his arrival in Manila on Wednesday.

The Filipino boxer recalled the moments after a punch from Marquez rendered him unconscious.

“In the dying second of my last fight, a single punch knocked me out. For more than two minutes, I was lying unconscious. My wife cried. Members of Team Pacquiao cried,” Pacquiao said.He added that these moments made him realize that his “pro-life” stance was correct. In the same speech, Pacquiao also thanked his colleagues for their support during his recent fight.

The Filipino boxer received a standing ovation from House members after he expressed his gratitude.

The House already earlier approved the RH bill on second reading, but a nominal voting was called to verify the results of the first vote. — DVM, GMA News

  1. Marquez's punches must have gotten into Pacman's head. I do not see the connection between his knock out and the RH. Oo nga pala kung pro-life ka wag ka na lang mag boxing kasi sinisira mo ang katawan mo sa mga bugbog ng mga kaaway mo. Saka, itigil mo na ang pag-ng alak hindi pro-life din yun.
