(Updated 9:01 a.m.) - Tropical Storm Quinta (Wukong) weakened and slowed down after making landfall over Leyte province at midnight Tuesday and started crossing Camotes Island in Central Visayas early Wednesday.
"Ang pag-landfall niya, humina siya at bumagal ang pagkilos. Na-maintain niya ang intensity ng pag-ulan," PAGASA forecaster Ricky Fabregas said in an interview on dzBB radio.
Fabregas also said Quinta is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning.
He said there are now two scenarios for Quinta: it can intensify if it continues moving west, or it can dissolve if it moves north and encounters the northeast monsoon.
PAGASA's 5 a.m. advisory said Quinta is now traversing Camotes Island in Cebu.
As of 4 a.m., it said Quinta was estimated in the vicinity of Pacijan Island, Cebu, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
It said Quinta was forecast to move west at 20 kph and is expected to be at 70 km southwest of Coron, Palawan by Thursday morning.
By Friday morning, it will be at 460 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA said Quinta may bring rainfall of 10 to 20 mm per hour (heavy to intense) within its 350-km diameter.
It advised residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signals to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.
Also, it warned those in coastal areas under public storm warning signal 2 to be alert against big waves or storm surges.
"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao," it said.
Travelers stranded
Meanwhile, almost 6,000 people were stranded in various ports nationwide due to Quinta, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
As of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the NDRRMC said 5,916 people were stranded in ports in Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao.
The bad weather conditions also prompted the cancellation of flights on Wednesday.
At least 13 domestic flights were canceled, said the Department of Transportation and Communications. — DVM/KG, GMA News
