Tropical Storm Auring (Sonamu) made landfall over the southern tip of Palawan early Friday, and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as early as Friday noon, state weather forecasters said.
PAGASA forecaster Buddy Javier said Auring maintained its strength as it made landfall, and may bring heavy to intense rain.

"Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. makaka-exit na ito sa Philippine area of responsibility. Medyo may kabilisan, 28 kph ang speed niya," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m., Tropical Storm Auring was estimated to be in the vicinity of Buliluyan, Palawan or 210 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City.
It said Auring packed maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and is moving west at 28 kph.
By Friday afternoon it is expected to be 470 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City, or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Southern Palawan remained under Storm Signal No. 2 while the rest of Palawan remained under Storm Signal No. 1.
PAGASA said Auring may bring 10 to 20 mm per hour (heavy to intense) rainfall within its 300-km diameter.
It reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.
Also, it reminded those in coastal areas under Storm Signal No. 2 to be alert against big waves or storm surges generated by Auring.
"Southern Palawan will experience stormy weather. The rest of Palawan will have rain and gusty winds. Visayas, Mindanao and Calabarzon will be cloudy with moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms," PAGASA said.
It added Cagayan Valley and Aurora province will experience cloudy skies with light rain.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, it added.
Also, moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail throughout the archipelago, making coastal waters moderate to rough.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds may affect the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon.
"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboards of Southern Luzon due to the northeast monsoon," it said. —KG, GMA News
