The Malaysian government has killed the uncle of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III.

Abraham Idrijani, spokesperson of the Sulu sultanate, made this claim as he announced the death of Ustadz Jamjam Sali on Sunday or eight days after his alleged arrest in Semporna, Sabah.

Idrijani said the Malaysian police forces arrested Sali for being related to Kiram even though he has been living in Semporna since 1990.

“(Kiram’s brother) Raja Muda Agbimuddin called us at 1:30 p.m. (on Tuesday) to tell us that the Malaysian police executed his uncle was by firing squad,” Idrijani said.

“The sultan is saddened because the way of his death is not Islamic. It is not adopted by civil and modern nation and I don’t know what type of government Malaysia has,” he said.

The Sulu sultanate’s secretary-general deplored the Malaysian government for taking advantage of the 74-year old religious leader, who has been teaching about Islam for more than two decades in Sabah.

Idrijani also criticized Malaysian police for taking advantage of Sali, who has been undergoing dialysis for several years.

However, there had been no reports from Sabah that the Malaysian government has arrested or executed any relative of Kiram.

“They deliberately hid the killing of Ustadz Jamjam Sali. They did not inform anyone about it in what we call a kangaroo court,” Idrijani said.

“If they are really a democratic nation, they should have afforded him due process and we could have prevented this,” he added.

“They would like to keep this matter  a secret so we cannot react. But no matter how the Malaysian government hides this, the truth will out,” he noted.
