A Cebu Pacific plane taking off at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. The Philippine government said Tuesday it was aiming to boost passenger capacity at its congested Manila airport next year with the long-awaited completion of a controversial terminal

Almost two weeks after an airport mishap in Davao, another Cebu Pacific plane figured in a runway incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Thursday.

The plane used for Cebu Pacific flight 5J448 from Iloilo skidded to the right of the runway as it landed at NAIA amid heavy rain past 4 p.m.

“Muntik nang lumabas sa runway during the landing. Inararo ‘yung limang edge light (The plane almost veered off the runway. It damaged five edge lights),” Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Angel Honrado said in a radio interview Friday.

No one among the reported 95 passengers have been harmed during the incident, however. The plane also made it to the NAIA Terminal 3, without disrupting operations in the country’s busiest airport.

“Dahil umuulan, posibleng nadulas pero hinihintay pa rin natin ang report ng Cebu Pacific (It’s possible that the plane skidded due to the heavy downpour but we are waiting for a report from Cebu Pacific),” Honrado told DZMM.

Some flights have been cancelled while others have been diverted to the Clark International Airport as rains hammered Metro Manila Thursday.

In an advisory on Friday, Cebu Pacific said its aircraft is “currently undergoing a thorough check, and awaiting release back into service.”

“However, our flights continue to operate as scheduled,” the statement, posted in the airline’s Twitter account added.
