Controversial pop sensation Charice has stepped back into the limelight after ending speculations on her sexual preference by coming out of the closet.

For the first time since saying she’s gay in an interview on “The Buzz” and after months of evading public eye, Charice faced media during the Yahoo! OMG Awards launch Tuesday.

Charice, clad in black, proudly showed off her tattoos when she faced the crew of Yahoo! Southeast Asia. Charice also appeared refreshed, following her “coming out” on national TV.

She is also thankful for the outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. She said she’s also happy she was able to inspire others.

Her admission on Sunday has driven social media abuzz, with many of her fellow celebrities raving about their support for the singer, whose gender, they said will not make her less talented.

Charice has rarely made public appearances after her stint at the local version of music competition “X Factor” where she sat as one of the judges.

Her apparent absence has fuelled rumors on her sexual preference, following an image change which saw her drop her girly teenage style.

Charice, who earned popularity through YouTube before gaining international attention, has also been linked with two female singers: Cheesa Laureta and Alyssa Quijano.

Laureta, a Filipino-American contestant in U.S. singing competition The Voice, was just a friend, Charice said in her interview.

She admitted, however, that X Factor Philippines contestant Quijano, with whom she was rumored to have eloped, is “a very special person” to her.

“Isa siya sa mga sobrang pinagkukuhanan ko ng lakas (She’s one of my biggest sources of strength),” Charice said.

Aside from questions on her sexual orientation, Charice has been hounded by media interest in a supposed rift between her and mother Racquel.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that the misunderstanding even turned legal, with Charice filing a police blotter against her mother.

But Charice ended speculations by saying that she and her mother, who raised her singlehandedly, are “no longer fighting” and are “trying to understand each other.”

“Kailangan ko po siyang intindihin kasi kung nasaktan man niya ako, mas nasaktan ko siya bilang isang ina (I have to understand her because if she ever hurt me, I hurt her more as a mother),” Charice said.
