A stronger tropical storm “Gorio” has made landfall over Samar, the state weather bureau said Saturday, keeping storm signals up in several provinces.

“Gorio,” hit Eastern Samar at about 8 a.m. Saturday, Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. bulletin. Its center was spotted 30 kilometers South of Borongan.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, higher than 55 kph Friday.

Pagasa hoisted public storm warning signal number 2 over the following areas:

Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Quezon including Polilio Island, Samar Provinces, Biliran Leyte.

The following areas are meanwhile are under public storm warning signal number 1:

Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Bataan, Bulacan, Zambales, Tarlac, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Pangasinan,  Metro Manila, Southern Leyte, Capiz.
